Why I decided to create this

I dreamed up this site out of sheer pain and desperation. The vision I once had of my Brookland neighborhood came crashing in a wave of devastation once Donald Trump entered the White House just a few years after Muriel Bowser became our new Mayor. Since then, the events have been so traumatizing that I need time and space to process it all and share it in a way that is universally understood.

A letter to Karon Blake

This post started as a letter to Mayor Muriel Bowser. I have never written a letter to her before and regret that. As a DC elected official, paid by my tax dollars, tasked and bound to Oath with serving and protecting my interests as a DC resident, I am responsible for giving feedback and redressing any grievance. The challenge is how do I communicate everything in one letter, so I took a break to write another letter to address the trauma that has been steadily building up inside of me as I face, year after year, unspeakable tragedies and crises in my neighborhood.

Willowbrook: Fighting for my homeland

I have lived on Perry Street since 2011. I fell in love with the landscape and the yellow brick building in the middle of the block called the Willowbrook Condominiums. At the time, I was renting a one-bedroom that faced Michigan Avenue right at the corner of Perry Street, and I would pass the Willowbrook building on my way to 12th Street to eat and meet my neighbors.

I was inspired by an art project by Philly DJ, visual artist Gianni Lee and photographer Aaron Ramey. I don't feel free on this date today. I feel entrapped by a socio-political economic slave system here in the district of Columbia that has remained a continuous bondage
